Windstorm
December 14th, the largest windstorm in almost 50 years

From here, you can see the hole where our fence fell (the neighbors fence was actually taken apart on purpose, for construction before the storm). You can also make out a downed power pole
PC150012
A tighter shot of the downed power pole. This came down when a tree dropped onto the power lines further up the block
PC150013
A tighter shot of our blown-down fence
PC150014
Close-up of the downed power pole
PC150016
Thankfully, this tree got caught up in another one. Otherwise, it would have landed smack on top of the McElwee’s house
PC150020
This is the tree that took down the power pole behind our house
PC150022
The intersection just north of that downed tree had to be blocked off, because of the downed lines strewn across it
PC150023
A wide shot of the same intersection
PC150024
It seemed that almost no vegetation was spared. Certainly not these newly-planted shrubs at Rose Hill Elementary
Tree on Garage
A neighbor’s garage. A more direct hit probably would have taken the garage out completely, but this still did plenty of damage
PC150028
The broken base of the tree that hit the garage. There was a fair amount of rot in the stump
PC150030
According to the immediate neighbors, the owners of the house this tree is leaning on had just bought the place. Welcome to the neighborhood!
PC150031
The path leading to South Rose Hill Park, completely covered in debris
PC150032
Lots of trees down at the park. On the bright side, only a few sections of fence were hit here.
PC150033
Limbing the tree in preparation for cutting it up
PC150038
Many of the trees that landed on houses wound up like this, thankfully, instead of crashing through the structure
PC150039
The chimney of this house even appears to have held up reasonably well
PC150040
Why that one section of fence stayed up when all the others fell, I have no idea
